Episode 190: Bifurcating Virgins

Steve & Grant join the Geeks for a live record of the Australia Desk which has made Steve very happy as he doesn’t have to edit it! Despite the perils of recording live, the boys managed to discuss:

  • Virgin moves ahead with its restructure into two parts but Qantas isn’t happy about it
  • Qantas A380 VH-OQA (Nancy Bird Walton) has completed $135 million of repairs & is back in the air again after an engine exploded over Indonesia, forcing it to return to Singapore for an emergency landing
  • Engine Alliance promoting their “reliable” A380 engines vs the Rolls Royce engines that have been having some engine oil troubles even after the explosion
  • Air New Zealand has grounded their ATR72s due to some cracks found around the cockpit windows on one of their aircraft
  • AirAsiaX is going to pull out of their Kuala Lumpur to Christchurch route despite high load factors
  • Former CEO of Air Australia is still living up the high life despite the airline going under
